Day of Champion Results
Riverside Minor Baseball finished off the season with their Day of Champions on Saturday, Aug. 15th. The 2 best teams from 4 divisions: Rookie Ball, Mosquito, Pee Wee and Bantam competed to crown new champions.
Rookie Ball
The Pomegranate Restaurant Tigers, undefeated in the playoffs, continued their winning ways by defeating the C.A.W. Local 200 Rays 7 – 2. Jack White, Nathan Byerley, Nick Denault and Josh Wilkinson led the Tigers 18 hit attack with 3 hits each. Hunter Roth and Aiden Bass collected 3 hits each for the Rays. Fine defensive plays kept the score down as both teams moved the ball.
Mosquito
Strong pitching by Spencer Ferguson and Austin Labelle gave the Wolverine Transit Tigers a 8-3 win over the Dr. Page & Dr. Brode Blue Jays. Ferguson and Labelle combined to strike out 15 and gave up only 5 hits. The Tigers batted through the order in the first 2 innings scoring 7 runs as 7 players each got a hit. For Blue Jays, lead off hitter Jax D’Hont with 3 hits and Nick Prieur with 2, got all of the teams hits.
Pee Wee
The Tecumseh Golf Yankees made 4 hits count as they scored 12 runs in the first 3 innings with the help of 12 walks and held on for a 12 – 7 win over the Clarence Marentette Insurance Brokers Blue Jays. Myles Miller and Ryan Ulicney combined to allow 7 hits and stuck out 15 for the Yankees. Martin Palmer pitched the last 3 innings for the Blue Jays striking out 8 and allowing no hits, but the Yankees had built an insurmountable lead.
Bantams
Derek Murphy and Kyle Essex combined to pitch Nantais Source for Sports to a 8 – 2 win over the T. Litzen Sports Mariners. Murphy and Essex stuck out 11 and allowed only 5 hits. Both Chris Foster and Erik Lenarduzzi had 2 hit and scored 2 runs each for the Yankees, while Justin Merkley had 2 hits for the Mariners.
